A Cupola in my Computer

January 16, 2011

If icicles dangle from your lashes and hoarfrost coats your lips, I’m sorry.  Really, I am.

Here in Sicily the sun warms my limbs as I work on my tiny balcony. And reflected in my computer screen is an image that makes my heart burble:

You know how some people have a zillion photos of their dog, or their kid?

I’m obsessive that way about my cupola.

  • Hmmmmm….. a little “stalla di pietra” with olive trees and almond blossoms in the background. Gorgeous photos Jannn! The light at sunset the last couple of days has been fantastic!

  • Grazie for the beautiful images! How wonderfully you captured that fabulous ITALIAN LIGHT! It’s impossible to choose just one reflection I’d love in my computer…perhaps a revolving panorama: a Ventian canal, a trattoria in Rome, the view of the sea from Ravello…

  • A cupola sounds pretty good. Hard to beat that.
You fail to mention what the temperature is like after the sun sets though. I don’t know what it’s like on your balcony, but here the rooms become refridgeraters. I’m not kidding. We stick our hands in the fridge to warm up. It probably doesn’t help that our walls are paper thin…

    • Jann

Yes, it’s colder inside than out. Haley, have you no heat for the evening? If you’re getting into the fridge to warm up, that’s not fun! 🙁

  • So that is a Cupola…I go by one everyday. The St. Augustine’s Cupola!

All I have seen for days here in Oltre Po Pavese is FOG which stretches from here to Milano!. I should have stayed in Noto where is has been 20 degrees warmer every day (in Farenheidt).
By the way, I, too, like Bella’s suggestion.

I LOVE your cupola! Jann, is that the view out your window? If not, what is the view from the window of your house?

    • Jann

The cupola is out my window; I was working on my computer with my back to the sun when the cupola “popped up” on my screen.

  • While inspiration is, theoretically, everywhere, it’s still a matter of noticing it. Your cupola inspires me to be more aware of not just the screen on which I’m typing or what I see when I look up, but what is behind and around me, in this environment and in the energies present and imagined. Magnificent!

    • Jann

Yup, you’re right–it’s all around us, and I’d been working on my computer for quite a while before I even SAW it there.

  • Lovely photos! I have a screen saver looking through old buildings in Varenna to Lake Como and before my computer goes on it’s hold mode there is a slide show of Italy. I am a little obsessed. Think I might have to head to Sicily one of these days!

  • Jann, I want a glossy of Javier Bardem or Antonio Banderas…or both! 🙂 Love your cupola shots, by the way!

Well, considering this is mid-January, I’d like to see some sand and palm trees and a bunch of people running around in swimsuits reflected on my computer screen.
