What was in the bag? Did these people know each other? Did they all live in the same street? Ah…I’m dreaming of answers to these questions as I type! 🙂

Dennis, I love your witty erudition–you’re always making me run to the dictionary or wikipedia or something…ha ha, yes, the “early animation device.” I stood on that street corner and shot probably 50 photos, one after the other…click click click.
Just loving this corner and glimpse of daily life; but above all, that fabulous icon on the corner wall. All beautifully accented in black and white.

splendide foto..it seems taken in the Graziella, the old fishermen area,not far from the lovely daily market in ortigia…the name Graziella comes from Madonna delle Grazie(Virgin Mary of Mercy) the official protector of fishermen…that’s why it’s common to find there varoius edicole with the image of hers…

Ah, John–what blogger could have a better reader than you? You’re such a great cheerleader, and YES, you must return to see all you missed. Sicily is so chock-full of stuff to see and experience that, really, a lifetime on the island is not enough.
Che una bellissima città vecchia. I have fond memories of this place. My apartment was off via Dione. Because it’s only a one square mile island, the sea is everywhere. That’s what makes it so special.
Yes, it’s always amazing to be in those dark narrow medieval alleyways that suddenly open up to a bright blue sea… You were so lucky to have lived there for a time…
I see a story here about fate. It would be a novel based on all three characters and what happens to them after their energy crosses at the intersection of their chance meeting. I love the sequence of the shots and the black and white color.

Ciao Linda–honestly I’m not sure since I have never paid any attention to street names in Ortigia (what is the preferred spelling, anyway? Ortygia? Ortigia?), but looking at the map it probably was about there.

Spent three wonderful days in Siracusa this spring. Each morning we went down for coffee at Piazza Archimede and watched the world go by. Siracusa is just the right size, not to overwhelming, but full of surprises. Can not wait to return.
Piazza Archimede is one perfect piazza, isn’t it? Sicily’s (and Italy’s) palm trees are under threat from a really ugly beetle, and the piazza has lost a tall lovely palm…. so sad.
I was fortunate to spend last winter in Ortigia and remember this sweet little corner. All I can think about is returning
