I went to a wedding the other night on my church steps. I wasn’t invited, of course, but what I love about Sicilian weddings is that tourists and others can stumble through the church while the wedding is underway and hang around afterwards. Weddings here are fashion shows. (And the bride wasn’t the only one in lace.) Sicilians may be experiencing serious economic woes, but you’d never know it judging by their glad rags.

I found your statement about the difference in attitudes about using credit cards in Italy interesting. Why do you think you think differently there than back home in USA? Is Credit pushed as much as here?

So true about “la crisi” that I hear so much about from family back home, but when it comes to fashion they find the means.
On the other hand, here in America it’s a different perspective. No jobs no shopping unless you charge. In your opinion or experience, do Italians live on credit?
Carole, I don’t see Sicilians pulling out credit cards, and even I live differently here. For instance in the US I never carry cash and charge even a cup of coffee if I go out. Here I pay in cash almost every place. Funny.
You are so right regardless of economic conditions; Sicilians always wear their best ; clothing and jewelry to public events.

Your work is rather lovely and highly reflective of Sicilian culture. Your images express the antithesis of the stereotype which unfortunately persists in too many minds.
I am also a photographer, being retired after a career teaching it in a Middle school in Brooklyn NY as well as doing weddings and affairs in NY and also,like you, uninvited but still given the opportunity gladly in Sicilia.
If you are in Sicilia during July and August perhaps we could meet for coffee or whatever and share experiences. I live in Sant’Alessio which is about 20 minutes north of Taormina. In any case, I admire your beautiful soulful work tremendously and look forward to seeing more of it.

Love love the Italian fashion sense and how everything is seemingly a public event. And the Italian women wear it so well.
My brother and I happened upon some sort of party in Cortona on our Thanksgiving one year. They called us over, served us food, wine, more food, wine, etc. Lovely. It was my first to Italy — maybe that’s why I keep returning.
