Bella Figura, Spring 2015

May 12, 2015

In the half light of evening, a white Range Rover stuffed with white flowers stands ready at the bottom of the church steps. The bride smiles relentlessly for the videographer while her hip friends hang out.

Look ma, no socks! The look is huge with formal wear. (You have to be a tall bony boy to pull it off, though.)Young Sicilian Couple, Copyright Jann HuizengaBlack is chic at weddings down South, worn with earrings shiny as chandeliers. And bow ties reign, much as they did in 2014. Delizioso.

Chic Young Sicilian Couple, copyright Jann HuizengaMaxi skirts are back too. Hurrah! I’d like to wear one all day everyday in summer. Then I could worry about things more important than my cheese-white legs, veined here and there in blue, like a good Gorgonzola.Woman in Maxi SKirt, copyright Jann Huizenga

Looking at your lovely pics of all the Italian beauties, I am convinced, when I am able to get there, that I shall only be allowed out after dark. Where there are only dim lights. 🙂

    • Jann

Oh, Cathy!!! Don’t worry–this is a special occasion when they’ve been at the hairdresser & make-up artist for 5 hours, so they don’t always look like this….

  • Jann, I do love your fashion photos! Yes, I’ve seen LOTS of dresses — both the sheath style and the maxi dress — in our own stores. However, I haven’t seen too many women actually wearing them, ha!

    • Jann

Thanks, Debbie. Lots and lots of maxis here, on the streets and in the stores. I’ve been looking around, trying to find one that doesn’t make me look like an old Pioneer woman.

  • Sam

As great as these people look, it leaves me wondering: was anyone over 25 years old allowed to attend this wedding?

    • Jann

The older folks also looked smashing, so I’ll try to get them in my next fashion blog, Sam.

  • The men have such ambition and theatricality in their approach to appearance. More so than the women. It’s interesting. Always enjoy seeing the central role played by your beautiful church and its steps. Thanks, Jann xx

Narelle, you’re right: the men are the real peacocks in Sicily. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by!

  • Great photos Jann, love those boys looking so chic and full of brio!

  • The people are always so chic and beautiful in your wedding pictures! They are so hip and well-dressed. I love your pictures – they just take me away from everyday humdrum, thankyouverymuch!

  • Anitre

Lovely! I love the outfits on both men and women. I’m loving the bow ties with the sharp suits. Oooh!

    • Jann

Anitre I first noticed the super-abundance of bow ties on Easter Sunday in Pozzallo w/ you last year. And the trend continues… Hope you’re both well. xxxxxBaci

  • Hi Jann, Fun photos and commentary as always. Where do I find icons on your page to click and share on my Facebook, Twitter, etc.? xoxox From The Gers.

Ciao Aysha–what an interesting place you’re in!! I had to look it up–famous for Armagnac brandy. Yum. Uh, I’ll have my web guru look into getting me some icons–such a good idea–I’m a hapless technophobe, as you know.
